A dog owner in his 60s who ignored a neighbor’s request to “tie up the dog” and caused human injuries has been jailed.
On July 7, Chief Judge Park Hyun-jin of the Wonju Support Criminal Division메이저놀이터 2 of the Chuncheon District Court sentenced A (67), who was charged with gross negligence causing injury, to one year in prison. As a result, Mr. A was taken into custody.
Previously, Mr. A was raising five mountain dogs at his home in Hwaseong-gun, Gangwon-do. However, on May 8, last year at around 4:30 a.m., one of Mr. A’s mountain dogs bit both legs of his neighbor’s granddaughter, Ms. B (5), causing serious injuries that required more than four weeks of treatment.
Ms. B’s grandparents had reportedly contacted Mr. C, another neighbor, on May 6, two days before the accident, to ask him to keep the dogs tied up as they were going to play with their children at the cottage below Mr. A’s house.
The court concluded that Mr. A had a duty to prevent dog bites by taking appropriate measures, but neglected to do so.
Deputy Chief Judge Park Hyun-jin said, “She usually did not tie up her dogs properly, causing inconvenience to nearby residents. It is acknowledged that the accident occurred because he failed to fulfill his duty of care even after receiving a specific request.” “However, the sentence was set in consideration of the fact that the dog that was attacking the victim (Ms. B) was stopped by her father’s dog and prevented major damage,” explained Deputy Chief Judge Park Hyun-jin.
