Veteran middle blocker Daeyoung Jeong, wearing the GS Caltex uniform for the first time in 9 years, is working with new setters.
Daeyoung Jeong announced a new start this year by transferring from Korea Expressway Corporation to GS Caltex as a free agent (FA), and is about to enter his 19th season. We are preparing for the 2023-24 season with coach Sang-hyun Cha saying, “Let’s finish well.” Daeyoung Jeong also said, “I think they called me because they thought I could be helpful. He said, “He asked me to fill in the gaps in the middle blocker department and lead the players well on the court.”
In the middle blocker lineup, veteran Han Su-ji is also receiving help from Jeong Dae-young. Daeyoung Jeong said, “I talk to Suzy a lot. When Suzy says, ‘I think these things are different for you,’ she tells me a lot. “I think other middle blocker players have also improved in that way,” he said with a happy smile.
Currently, there are significant changes taking place at GS Caltex. Existing setter Ahn Hye-jin went on the operating table last July due to a shoulder injury. She is expected to take eight months to rehabilitate. She inevitably left for a long period of time. Kim Ji-won, a four-year professional setter born in 2001, was selected for the national team and sat out the entire off-season.
This year, the 171cm Kim Ji-woo, born in 2005, was recruited as a free player from Heungkuk Life Insurance, and after two replacements in the Asian quarter, Philippine national team setter Iris Tolanada was also brought in. In addition, through this year’s rookie draft, Lee Yun-shin, a 172cm setter from JoongAng Girls’ High School, was selected as the 4th pick in the first round.
It has been about a week since Tolanada and Yunshin Lee joined the team. I am concentrating on working well with the attackers. On the 18th, a practice match was held against the Hitachi Astemo Rivarre team from Japan at the clubhouse located in Cheongpyeong.
Coach Cha Sang-hyun hired Tolanada first, and replaced Lee Yun-shin to check his skills. It was a surprise appearance for Lee Yun-shin, but it showed his ‘strong heart’.
Daeyoung Jeong, who played with him on the court, said, “He is now a third-year high school player. Still, he plays well. “Among the setters I’ve seen so far, she’s the second fastest after (Lee) Hyo-hee,” he said, praising Lee Yun-shin, referring to the current Korea Expressway Corporation coach Lee Hyo-hee.
Daeyoung Jeong continued, “I think the coach has a good eye for players. He seems to have brought in good players, so I think he will be a plus for the team. “I also try to quickly understand the player’s style,” he added.먹튀검증
Yoo Seo-yeon had a similar reaction. Yoo Seo-yeon said, “I came to the team on the first day and saw them working out at night, and the toss was okay. “We started practicing together the next day, and the speed and pitch quality from the toss seemed to be good,” she said. Coach Cha also expressed his expectations for Lee Yun-shin, saying, “He has a sense as a setter.” It is clear that time is still needed, but Coach Cha, who is deeply concerned about the setter, is relieved of his worries.
Daeyoung Jeong is also improving his condition. His participation in this year’s cup competition was canceled after suffering a calf injury during training in Japan last July. He is shaping his body to V-Lee. He said, “My body is up. It has been about a month since I met the players after the cup competition. “It seems like things are coming together better,” he said.
Finally, Daeyoung Jeong said, “I approach each season with the thought that it will be my last. “I’m grateful just to be on the court, and I just think about doing my best,” he said, adding, “I hope this will help GS Caltex go to spring volleyball this season,” and revealed his goal for the new season. Born in 1981, Daeyoung Jeong’s challenge is not over.
