Dias final two-run NL wins All-Star Game, beats AL for first time in 11 years

The National League (NL) has defeated the American League (AL) in the Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Game. The NL came from behind to defeat the AL 3-2 in the 2023 MLB All-Star Game at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington, USA, on Sunday (June 12).

Elias Díaz (Colorado Rockies) hit a game-winning two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning with the NL trailing 1-2. The NL beat the AL in the All-Star Game for the first time in 11 years.

The last time the NL won an All-Star Game was in 2012, when they defeated the AL 8-0. Since then, the NL has lost to the AL every year except for 2020, when the All-Star Game was canceled due to a declared novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

With the win, however, the NL trails the AL 44-2 and 47-47 in the all-time All-Star series.

The AL struck first. The AL struck first in the bottom of the second inning when Yandy Dias (Tampa Bay Rays) hit a solo shot off NL starter Mitch Keller (Pittsburgh Pirates).스포츠토토

Down 1-0, the NL tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning when Luis Arajes (Miami Marlins) came to the plate with runners on first and second off George Kirby (Seattle Mariners).

The AL took the lead again in the bottom of the sixth. NL sixth baseman Alexi Diaz (Cincinnati Reds) gave up back-to-back singles to Salvador Perez (Kansas City Royals), who came in for Shohei Ohtani (Los Angeles Angels), and the next batter, Brent Rooker (Oakland Athletics).

The AL had runners on second and third with one out and Beau Bissett (Toronto Blue Jays) at the plate, who laid down a sacrifice bunt to retake the lead at 2-1. The NL answered in the top of the seventh when Raul Gurriel Jr. (Arizona Diamondbacks) hit a big shot over the left field fence.

Gurriel Jr. rounded first, second, and third base to complete a home run celebration, but video review ruled the play foul and the NL was unable to score.

But in the top of the eighth, the game changed. Leadoff hitter Nick Castellanos (Philadelphia Phillies) drew a walk and a wild pitch put runners on first and second with no outs.

Diaz stepped up to the plate and came up big. He stepped to the plate and swung at a five-pitch fastball from the AL’s ninth best pitcher, Felix Bautista (Baltimore Orioles).

It was a two-run shot over the left field fence. The AL also had a chance. With runners on first and second in the bottom of the ninth, the NL was able to protect its lead.

Closer Craig Kimbrel (Philadelphia) struck out Jose Ramirez (Cleveland Indians) on a wild pitch to end the game.

Ohtani was named to the AL starting lineup as the designated hitter and second baseman, but went 1-for-1.

Díaz, who hit the game-winning home run, was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the All-Star Game.
