A man who allegedly beat his middle school classmate to death over the course of a year has been arrested.
The Gyeyang Police Station in Incheon announced today (Aug. 23) that it has detained Mr. A, 19, on suspicion of assault-murder, innocence, racketeering, and special injury.
On August 31 last year, Mr. A allegedly strangled Mr. B, a middle school classmate, at a jjimjilbang in Sangju, North Gyeongsang Province, leaving him brain dead and then fled.
Mr. B subsequently died on September 3 of the same year due to hypoxic brain damage caused by external forces.
Mr. A’s crimes came to light last year when he assaulted Mr. B at a motel in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, and then falsely reported to 112 that his “friend was beaten by his father” to hide it.
Mr. A coerced Mr. B into making the false statement that he was “beaten by his father,” and Mr. A’s alleged crime came to light when police investigated Mr. B’s father for domestic violence.
The police investigation revealed that Mr. B had not returned home at the time of the reported assault, and the search for Mr. B’s whereabouts led to the discovery of Mr. B’s death.
The case of Mr. B’s death, which had previously been handled as a “foul play”메이저놀이터 by the resident police station, was transferred to the Gyeyang Police Station in Incheon, and a coordinated investigation was conducted.
The police secured CCTV footage of Mr. A and Mr. B going to a jjimjilbang in Sangju together, and found that Mr. A had been abusing Mr. B for about a year, including burning his hair, and extorting millions of won from him since September 2021.
Mr. A, who came under police investigation eight months after the crime, reportedly admitted to the charges of injury and assault, stating that he assaulted her for no particular reason, but denied the charges of extortion, special injury, and assault and battery.
A police official said, “Based on the investigation and circumstantial evidence, we proved Mr. A’s false statement and detained him,” and added, “We will work to ensure that Mr. A receives a reasonable punishment for his crime.”
